Lapped Plating, Pencil Erasers, Car Repair Putty
And Now Your As Confused As Me
Well at least i hope so as i'd hate to think i was the only one

Welcome back to another round of fun, sun and suffering in the hellhole...without the fun and sun bit i hasten to add.
Right then, last time i said it was about time to start the surface detail so off we go gang.
First up, the plating and some detail on the nose and for those of you just joining us here i'll repost a pic of the nose of this beastie.

Now here is where the fun stuff starts.
To begin, we will need a couple of lines on the schnozz of this thing for the front sawtooth plate.

Done and done so now a strip of ordinary masking tape duly sliced up a goodun' in the appropriate shape and laid on, also two indents cut out for the two...indented areas on the nose.
Nope, no idea what they are supposed to be but they are there so...



Ok then, to smooth off the sides of those indent thingies, it was out with the pencil eraser
(see, i didn't mention it at the start for nothing)
And cut two small blocks.

Reaching for the car repair putty, mixed up a small dab, placed it in the hole then pushed in the rubber wedges, allow to cure, remove and trim excess putty.



Not too shabby so onward!
Two final bits to add, a pair of masking tape circles, then plaster over with ordinary, bog standard, modeling filler putty.
When cured, gently sand away the excess untill the tape is exposed and then remove tape.



Once all dry and sorted, a quick blast of primer and take a look at the deal so far.



Very promising!
Lastly, same sort of trick again to get the raised area inbetween the indents then with the end of a piece of 2mm diameter brass tube in a pinvise, a gentle twist in the circular areas either side and done!

Well it looks the part so shuffling along the fuselage slightly we come to....
Two Lumps For Me Please
The two lumps in question being the gun pods that sit just behind the canopy...like this.

To begin with, the intake/vent thingy on top needed sorting so a wee slab of 10 thou plasticard was cut, attached, filled, sanded, primered and sorted, a bit like this..











Good to go so far so now onto the sticking out bits.
Two basic outline plasticard shapes cut and installed with some plastic tube to fill a bit of the gap.



Then the oh so inevitable fill, sand, fill, sand, fill, sand, carve, chisel, rend, tear, hack and so on.





And then finally, joy of joys,
Primer paint time!!



Most splendid i must say and only a bit more shaping and a few wee surface defects still to clear up.
I'll call that winning so far.
