A Base To Build Da Bits And Bobs On
Well now, we into the bit of trying to get summat together so...
For starters a base of somekind will be needed to build the engine section on so after much plan and piccie consulting,
a bit of marking took place for the outline of the intake plates on the top fuselage.

This bit outlined in red...

So then, after a wee bit of headscratching, much measuring and remembering that lines on a 2D plan don't always translate to a sloped surface length for length, i ended up with this.

So first darken the line with a marker pen then a bit of paper and tracing on the outer edge of said line then going back and forth between plans and model with a bit more scribbling gets us this..

After that, using some spray photo mount adhesive and some taped together A-4 paper, stick paper template down on A-4 paper and fold along center line drawn on first paper template, cut out and presto..

So now i got me template, using to spray adhesive this was fixed to some 2mm clear plastic. Ordinary clear styrene that gets used for greenhouse glazing and the like, cheap and it will serve the purpose here.
It has a thin polythene like plastic film on both sides which helps belive it or not.
One side clear, the other side is printed on.

So paper template in place on the clear side and the printed film removed from the other, i started scoring round the edge.
Some repeated scoring and snapping later and then just peel off the template and film together...



Only part that i couldn't remove was this bit.

But not to worry, a circular saw blade fitted to the mini-drill, a swipe or twelve and...

Nice.
So all the edges given a light going over with some grit paper and that's the cutting out done.

So in rough position we get this.

A bit of attacking with a heat gun and we finally wind up with this.



A more than decent enough base to build on, though the outer parts that cover the wing rotation point will need to be set. Looking at the plane headon, they only have a drop of about two or three degrees but that's for later. The bottom intakes and detail will be delt with in the same fashion.

Right now, it's getting on for time to get the fuselage surface started on being sorted. Much detail and the like will have to be worked on to this bit so to begin with the smoothing off, stablising the wood and make it easier to see, some epoxy resin with some grey colouring paste in and liberally painted on.









So, a bit rough still but after letting the resin cure fully, a good sanding and a repeat coat or two and it should be soild as a rock and smooth as silk...well i hope so anyways.
